Session F:Elementary Project Based Learning & STEAM
Project Based Learning, with STEAM integration, organizes curriculum and instruction around authentic student questions to ensure concepts and skills are acquired within real-world contexts. This methodology encourages students to pursue inquiries and solve problems that are relevant to the world in which they live by building skills in critical thinking, collaboration, communication and creativity. The integration of mathematics, science, and engineering integrated with digital literacy and art, assists students in developing and utilizing 21st century learning skills. Through Project Based Learning, a teaching method in which students authentically gain knowledge and skills by working for an extended period of time to investigate and respond to an engaging and complex question, problem, or challenge; as well as integrating technology, students complete STEAM projects over the course of approximately six to eight weeks. During this workshop, presenters will model the process of planning a project based learning unit for participants to replicate in their classrooms.
